Hardscapes and Outdoor Living
Charlotte lots often have grade changes, underused backyard space, or no defined area for outdoor seating. Hardscapes address those problems with permanent structures that hold up through weather and add space you can actually use.

Retaining Walls
Sloped terrain in Charlotte loses soil during heavy rain and limits what can be planted or built on the hillside. A retaining wall holds that grade in place and creates flat, usable ground above it. We build walls in natural stone, concrete block, or brick to fit the scale of the property and the style of the home.

Pavers and Outdoor Living Areas
A paver patio gives you a stable, level surface that handles foot traffic, furniture, and a grill without cracking or shifting. Pavers manage Charlotte's temperature swings better than poured concrete and hold their appearance for years. We design the layout based on how you want to use the space and how it connects to the rest of the yard.

Custom Fire Pits
A fire pit adds usable outdoor time well into fall and on cool spring evenings. We build custom fire pits in gas or wood-burning configurations, sized to fit the surrounding patio and built to hold up outdoors year-round. The installation is designed as part of the broader outdoor space, not added on separately.

Landscape Design
Every design starts with an in-person property evaluation covering soil composition, sun exposure, drainage, and existing vegetation. Lauren selects plants based on what will perform in Charlotte's clay-heavy soil and humid summers. Each layout is built around how you use the space, not a standard plan pulled from a template.

Landscape Installation
After the design is approved, the team preps the site: clearing debris, grading where the terrain needs leveling, and amending soil before planting begins. Each plant goes in with the right depth, spacing, and soil conditions to support a healthy root system from day one.

Mulch Installation
Fresh mulch holds moisture in the soil through Charlotte's dry spells and slows weed growth between plantings. As it breaks down over the season, it adds nutrients back into the soil. Beds stay healthier and require less intervention between visits.

Metal Edging
Metal edging creates a defined boundary between planting beds and lawn that holds its shape through heat, rain, and freeze cycles. Mulch stays in the bed, grass stays out, and the line between the two stays crisp year after year.
Learn More →Landscape Maintenance
Charlotte’s combination of heat, humidity, and fast spring growth puts consistent pressure on installed landscapes. Regular maintenance keeps plantings healthy, beds defined, and the yard looking the way it did when installation finished.
Yard Cleanups
Spring cleanups clear out dead growth, fallen limbs, and debris left over from winter so beds are ready for new growth. Fall cleanups remove leaf buildup and prepare plants for the cold months ahead. Both services are available as standalone visits or combined with other maintenance.
Learn More →Winterizing
Plants that go into winter unprepared often come back poorly or not at all. A protective mulch layer insulates root systems against frost, and vulnerable plants get covered before temperatures drop. The goal is a landscape that recovers fast when spring arrives.
Learn More →Ornamental Gardens
Ornamental gardens need more regular attention than standard planting beds to stay healthy and look good through the season. We handle pruning, feeding, and seasonal plant rotations through the full growing season. Each visit is based on what the garden needs at that point in the year.
Learn More →Therapeutic Horticulture
Hands-on garden work produces documented physical and mental health benefits, including improved fine motor skills, reduced stress, and stronger social connections. Big Visions offers structured therapeutic horticulture programs for assisted living facilities, rehabilitation programs, and community organizations. Lauren holds a certification in horticultural therapy and leads every session directly.

Who We Are
Big Visions Landscaping started with a simple love of plants. Owner Lauren Katz fell in love with all things landscaping when she began working for a local nursery shortly after college. She moved on to work for several landscaping companies, gaining hands-on knowledge about landscape design and installation. The more she learned about the art of landscaping, the more passionate she became about making people happy through horticulture.
With a mission to create beautiful horticultural landscapes to help homeowners enjoy their properties to the fullest, Lauren and Master Gardener Melanie Richardson created Big Visions Landscaping. Starting their own landscaping business gave the team the freedom to focus on what they love most–designing quality landscapes and forming lasting relationships with their clients.
